Russell & Aidan Thompson Climbing Aconcagua
Fundraising for Maidstone Mediation Scheme
As part of my ongoing mid-life crisis, some of you might know that I am leaving on February 3rd to climb Aconcagua in the Andes. Considering how fat and unfit I am that is going to be a bit of a challenge to put it mildly. Aconcagua is the highest mountain in the world outside of the Himalayas, and one of the seven summits. It’s a serious mountain which kills people regularly, and it has the second highest vertical ascent in the world, second only to Everest. I’ll be away for about a month trying to get up it. What you may not know is that my 14 year old son Aidan is coming with me, as 14 is the youngest they will let you attempt to climb it.
Apart from the challenge of trying to get up this monster, both Aidan and I want to make this count for something. Earlier this year my daughter Audrey moved back to England and one of the main reasons was because of bullying at her school in Monaco. So anything that can deal with bullying in life is very close to my heart. Anyway, for a few years I have donated to a fantastic little charity called Maidstone Mediation, which does some really inspiring work in helping children who are being bullied in schools, and I really want to try and raise some money for a great charity which will really appreciate it, and which will make a real difference to them.
A couple of years ago, myself and Aidan climbed Mount Whiney, the highest mountain in the continental US and raised nearly 8,500 euros for Bloodwise, a blood cancer charity. I want to try and beat that this year, so I wanted to ask any or all of you to donate to my Just Giving page here…
Thank you so much. No obligation on anyone of course. I know times are not the easiest but every little helps.
